When is the last time you hosted an event to promote your non profit organization? I am often asked how did we grow so quickly. How did we get so many people at our events. People wanted to know and I had no problem sharing with them my knowledge. One of the things I quickly learned about the non profit sector was that many people who had started them had great ideas and reasons to start the non profit organization but did not have many ideas on how to grow them.
Another thing that baffled me was how few people were willing to pay for the information that they needed to grow their organizations. One gentleman I met at a seminar put on by the United Way confessed that he had found some information that he thought would be helpful to his organization but that “they wanted to sell the information and that he was not going to buy any information”. I told him that he may need to revisit that decision.
I shared with him that i purchase information on line all the time. I shared that I had discovered some of the best information available came with a price tag. He agreed that he would revisit that information that he had contemplated earlier but was apprehensive to purchase for whatever the reason was.
